We’re getting ready for Building the Future. Take a peek.

We’re a week away from the inaugural edition of Building the Future, an Ativar Portugal event powered by Microsoft, that will give attendees a chance to see and experience the technology that will shape everyone’s daily lives in the near future and hopes to be the largest tech showcase in Portugal.

Taking place on the 29th and 30th of January, in the sumptuous Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, in Lisbon, Building the Future‘s main feature will be the aptly named “Intelligent Day” area where companies will demo and display the tech they’re working on with the goal of making everyone’s lives easier. Attendees will have the chance to partake in themed tours, and as one of the event’s sponsors, DevScope will be part of the “Empower People” tour. Our main draw will be SmartDocumentor Expenses, an AI & Machine Learning solution that will rid employees of tedious and time-consuming paper expenses and save companies a tremendous amount of time and money in the process, by making expenses processing and reimbursement as automatic as possible.

Building the Future will also host many sessions featuring some of the visionaries behind the technology. Among them are our Business Intelligence Manager and Data Platform MVP Rui Romano 29th with the session “Modern BI with Microsoft Power BI” on the 29th, and our Data Researcher and AI&ML resident specialist Rui Quintino with “Lean Artificial Intelligence with Deep Learning and AutoML” on the 30th.

If you’re attending Building the Future, make sure you take the time to embark on the “Empower People” tour or attend one of DevScope’s speakers’ sessions to see some of the work we’re doing. You can also drop by our booth at the event and meet the team.

Tickets for Building the Future are still available. Get them here.

An OpenML hackathon took place in Porto, and we were there

Earlier this month, DevScope was one of several sponsors of a weeklong series of hands-on workshops titled “Introduction to Machine Learning: Sunset Workshops” which took place at the Porto Business School.
Introduction to Machine Learning at Porto Business School

All sessions happened after working hours and featured some renowned Machine Learning specialists from all over Europe.

Among the many projects the OpenML community took on during the hackathon, DevScope’s main contribution was towards the creation of a Docker version of OpenML so even more people can easily take part in the project. We also started a brainstorm session regarding the use of OpenML in the Machine Learning workplace context.

SQL Saturday is back in town!

October 28th is SQL Saturday day and once again Porto will host one of the most important meetings for users of this platform and for all of those who wish to know more about SQLServer’s ecosystem.

Pre-Conference – October 27th (Friday)

Pedro Sousa and Rui Quintino will carry out an awesome workshop on “Data Science with Azure Machine Learning Workbench & Docker Containers for Data Platform” and you are more than welcome to join them. To register for the training go to Weventual.

Rui Quintino Lead Data Researcher at DevScope. Rui works with Microsoft data related technologies since 1998 and currently leads Data Research team at DevScope building and improving products powered by Data, Machine Learning, Deep Learning & Artificial Intelligence. Beyond data technologies, Rui also has past background in web, mobile  & security and he likes to mix all of these to get the most out of Microsoft’s Data Platform and make the world a better place through the use of data.

Pedro Sousa lives in Porto, Portugal and he currently works as a Systems Engineer at DevScope. Started working with SQL Server at version 6.5 and although DBA is not his primary role, always had a particular interest in it. Nowadays one of his main focus is Microsoft Azure and integration with on-premises networks, working from the copper wire to the Cloud.

Conference – October 28th

We will be attending many other sessions, and also leading some other. Please join Rui Romano, Joana Barbosa, and Pedro Sousa at their respective lectures (Full Schedule)

EPIA2017: AI specialists joining us here in Porto.

applications-that-learn

Philipp Slusallek, Francesco Bonchi e Simon M. Lucas will join many other speakers here in Porto between September 5th and 8th.

EPIA is a well-established international conference on Artificial Intelligence, supported by Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA). The purpose of the conference is to promote research in AI and scientific exchange among AI researchers, practitioners, scientists, and engineers in related disciplines.

Rui Quintino, our lead researcher on AI, will be presenting his journey from Reports & Dashboards to applied Artificial Intelligence (full agenda here).

The event is being organized by APPIA.pt, LIACC/UP, LIAAD/INESC, GECAD/ISEP and we are proud to support the conference too.

Just one day left for the Microsoft Open Source Camp, the first event open source development conference held at Microsoft Portugal offices in Lisbon, with more than 25 sessions divided by 5 different session tracks, on topics such as ElasticSearch, Linux, Bots, Docker, Blockchain, React, .NET Core, Kubernetes, Serverless and much more.

Yes, you are reading correctly, it may be difficult for some of you to believe it, but it is a reality. Microsoft embraced Open Source so much that they are one of the largest corporate contributors to open source software on GitHub.

And once again, it is with great pleasure that we announce that Pedro Sousa and Rui Quintino are confirmed as event speakers. Pretty awesome, isn’t it?

Octopus Deploy & Docker

In this session, Pedro Sousa will talk about Octopus Deploy as a Continuous Deployment component on your Microsoft and Open Source infrastructure. Explaining the benefits of separating responsibilities between the Build process and the Release process. And the necessary requirements for an implementation of Octopus Server and his Tentacles (Agents), how to compose steps and examples how to integrate with container environments like Docker.

Open source deep-learning with Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit (CNTK) & LightGBM

In this session, Rui Quintino will introduce to you the Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit, a free, easy-to-use, open-source deep-learning framework for neural networks to model, train & use popular neural networks architectures for a large range of machine learning scenarios. You will be able to see how to start with custom image classification & computer vision scenarios using CNTK, running on CPU and GPUs, together with LightGBM (Microsoft open source gradient boosting framework).

If you want to know more information about the event or to register go to Open Source Camp event website.
